Celebrate the spirit of Mardi Gras every day of the year at Cafe Orleans. On a charming shady corner in New Orleans Square, this table-service restaurant serves Creole-inspired cuisine. The authentic food and atmosphere just might make you think you've taken a trip to the French Quarter.
Cafe Orleans serves delicious food with a distinctive New Orleans flair for lunch and dinner. Menu items range from "Crescent City" salmon salad and gumbo to crepes and the restaurant's famous Monte Cristo sandwiches. Special menu items for the kids include Mickey's cheesy macaroni. The signature Mickey-shaped beignets are great for dessert or an afternoon snack.
A Main Street staple since the park opened in 1955, the Carnation Cafe serves up an American menu heavy (pun intended) with traditional favorites-chicken potpie and pot roast, pancakes and waffles, and butcher-block sandwiches-in a parlor circa 1890. There's lots of brass, marble, and bright white accents, plus a terrific patio for people-watching. A nice selection of deli-style sandwiches, featuring ham, roast beef, or turkey piled on slabs of thick-cut shepherd's bread; dressed with mayo, lettuce, and tomato; and served with a dill pickle slice and a choice of sides.
Touring Tips
- When you meander down the narrow streets of New Orleans Square, you are transported into a genteel world of fragrant flowers and leisurely afternoons. Sit down and relax in the gracious dining room or on the shady patio as you watch the boats on Rivers of America glide by.
- The Carnation Cafe is another compromise spot-a place where the adults can find a decent plate, the kids can choose from their favorites, and it's easy on the wallet. Because of its location along Main Street, close to bathrooms and across from the locker facility, it gets wicked busy-expect to see waiting lines stretching down the street. Service is friendly and unusually patient; someone's briefed these young cast members on how an hour's wait and low blood sugar can erode a diner's mood. Once you're seated, the order comes quickly and with a smile. This place also serves one of the best cups of coffee in the land.
- The specialty of the house is, without a doubt, the Monte Cristo sandwich. Adapted from the French classic sandwich, croque-monsieur, the Monte Cristo sandwich appeared in California restaurants in the 1950s. Featured at Disneyland Park eateries since 1966, it has since become a coffee shop standard nationwide.
- Chicken potpie, on the menu since forever, is a perennial favorite, with chunks of white-meat chicken, chopped veggies, and potato swimming in a sea of thick, creamy gravy and baked into a but- tery, flaky piecrust.
- Close to two of the most popular attractions in Disneyland Park, Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, it's also a great place to dine before Fanstasmic! during the summer.
- Dining reservations are available for Cafe Orleans and can be made in person for this location on a limited basis. Reservations can also be arranged in advance by calling Disney Dining at (714) 781-DINE or (714) 781-3463.
