Primeval Whirl

Take a trip through time on Primeval Whirl, a roller coaster in the DinoLand U.S.A. area of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park! Refurbished and reopened in 2011, this ride invites big kids, teens and adults to go for a whirl in a spinning "time machine" car for dinosaur-themed excitement and thrills. In addition to sudden dips, hairpin turns and tight curves, this coaster spins each car on its own round-and-round path. You never know which way your car will twirl as you race around, making this ride a new experience each time.

The ride is an "off the shelf" spinning roller coaster purchased from Reverchon Industries. The ride is part of Chester and Hester's Dino-Rama, which is itself part of Dinoland USA. Primeval Whirl features 13 colorful cars that whirl past flying asteroids and corny depictions of dinosaur cut-outs that spin and pop up along the track. The spinning coaster takes guests on a wacky time warp back to the prehistoric era on a twisting track of tight loops and short drops with a final descent into the gaping jaws of a giant dino fossil. It is a roller coaster in the "Mild But Wild Thrills" category. It has cars that spin in circles while traveling on tracks, permitting the ride experience to vary greatly each time it is ridden. It usually seats up to 4 riders.

The ride is lightly themed, with decorations related to time travel and to the meteor which is believed to have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. This gives the coaster a storyline very similar to that of the nearby dark ride, DINOSAUR.
