Chairlift

Disney's Blizzard Beach

  • Type: Mild Thrill Ride
Height: 32 inches (80cm) or taller
Experience: Fun For Everyone

The Chairlift attraction transports Guests of all ages who are at least 32 inches tall to the top of Mount Gushmore in Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park. The chairs carrying guests feature wooden-bench seats, colorful overhead umbrellas and snow skis on their underside. This is the most recognized means of transport to the summit, where many of the rides are located (Guests can also climb a staircase to the top).

Take a leisurely ride to the top of Mount Gushmore aboard colorful, wooden, ski resort type chairlifts with umbrellas and dangling skis. The Chairlifts provide a one-way trip to the top of the mountain for access to these water attractions at the Green Slope area of the mountain Slush Gusher, Summit Plummet and Teamboat Springs.

Chair Lift is a real, working "ski lift" to the top of Mount Gushmore. This is only a one-way ride, so if you do not plan on riding the attractions at the top of Mount Gushmore, you probably don't want to ride this. The base of the Chair Lift is on ground level and takes you to the summit.

Attractions

The Green Slope attractions (all are single track water slides, and as such are not meant for racing,) are found at the uppermost point of Mount Gushmore which are accessed by the chairlift.

Summit Plummet is the flagship attraction at 120 feet tall, and speeds 60 miles per hour. It's the second tallest and fastest free fall slide in the world. There is a minimum height requirement of 48.

Teamboat Springs is the world's longest "family white-water raft ride" at 1,400 feet long. This attraction sends guests down a twisting series of rushing waterfalls. Water Park guests sit in large blue rubber rafts, which can hold a minimum of 4 and maximum of six people, equipped with handles to hold on while the gushing water takes you down the slide. No infants and other Health Restrictions are advised.

Slush Gusher is a 90-foot-tall, 250-foot-long snow-banked mountain gully body slide attraction that reaches speeds up to 35 miles per hour. It has two places where it almost levels off, only to drop back down again. As such, it is one of only a few water slides where "air time" is achieved. If you want to reach maximum air, raise your crossed-legs just before you reach the second hump and keep straight.

Touring Tips

  • Chair Lift can be fun and a time / energy saver. However, the line tends to back up for this as many people prefer not to walk the stairs. If you want to use the Chair Lift, use it early or be prepared to wait a while.
  • Please note that tubes and mats are not allowed. If you have those items, you must use the stairs.
  • A Gondola is available for disabled Guests to access the top of Mount Gushmore.
  • The Chair Lift is not a required means of transportation to the top of Mount Gushmore; there are stairs available.
  • Any time of year that the park is open is a good time to visit, but it does get very hot and very crowded during the summer peak season. There are two better times to arrive, shortly before the park opens, and in the warmer months when the park is open at night, its best to get there mid to late afternoon. If you want to go for the morning/early afternoon, it is essential to arrive by park opening time, particularly in the warmer months.
  • Weekdays, the nearer to the beginning of the week the better. Later in the week, Blizzard Beach attracts the people who typically spend the beginning of the week at the major parks. Local residents tend to keep things busy on the weekends.

Facts

  • Highly trained and qualified lifeguards are on duty over the course of the day patrolling the Water Park. All Disney lifeguards must complete a thorough training program that exceeds most national standards.
