Be entertained, informed and inspired at Innoventions! Experience the latest technologies with hands-on, interactive exhibits, games and shows. Innoventions is located inside a unique rotating building spinning in the heart of Tomorrowland.

Discover a 5,000 square-foot home of the future inhabited by the dynamic Elias family and learn how the technology of today - and the technology of tomorrow - seamlessly interconnects within the home, the surrounding community and the whole world.

The circular 2-story, rotating building is home to Innovention's regularly updated exhibits. The building was originally constructed in 1967 for the Carousel of Progress attraction (now featured at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.) From 1974 to 1988, the building hosted the America Sings attraction. Many of the Audio-Animatronics critters from that show continue to sing on in Splash Mountain.

Attraction

The first floor currently hosts the Dream Home in alliance with Microsoft, HP, and Taylor Morrison. Keeping with Walt Disney's vision of bringing cutting-edge, inspiring ideas to Tomorrowland, the Innoventions Dream Home introduces Disneyland guests to newly available technology from the participating companies that will enhance their lives today, while providing them a glimpse of the emerging digital advances they may find in their homes in the future. The attraction provides guests with a "high-tech, high-touch" opportunity to experience technology in an entertaining, low-risk environment showing them how the power of technology can connect them to the people and things they care most about.

The technology companies showcase a wide range of technologies and products in the exhibit, including the latest in PCs, digital music and gaming. The Innoventions Dream Home demonstrates how home technology can be simple, intuitive and fun while helping guests understand how to seamlessly interconnect their home, the surrounding community and the world, helping consumers stay closer to the people, places and entertainment that are most important to them. The alliances also help ensure that the Innoventions Dream Home remains on the forefront of technology with the newest devices and products as part of the exhibit.

Guests actively engage in this experience as the fictional Elias family hosts an open house to show off their new technology. Elias family members rotate throughout the house, randomly interacting with guests in the various rooms. Upon exiting the house, guests can learn more about the companies that collaborated to create the Innoventions Dream Home, exploring the technologies for themselves first-hand.

Guest who enter the Innoventions building are greeted by Tom Morrow, an Audio-Animatronic, who is the fictional mayor of Tomorrowland. He explains Innoventions in a comedic style and performs an updated version of the Sherman Brothers song "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" from the original Carousel of Progress. He is voiced by Nathan Lane.

Touring Tips

  • Innoventions can be a nice place to go to get away from the crowds and get into some air-conditioning. There is not very much seating inside, though.
  • Getting out of Innoventions can be a challenge. The exit is on the upper level and can be a little difficult to find. For all the high-tech that surrounds it, it's a very low-tech solution - just a set of regular double doors. Once outside, walk down the long ramp back into Tomorrowland.
  • There are NO restrooms in Innoventions. The closest restrooms are in the base of Innoventions, behind the Hatmosphere shop, or at the exit of Space Mountain, behind Starcade.
  • Innoventions is open as long as the park is open, but some of the special presentations, like "Say 'Hello' to Asimo" and "Stitch's Picture Phone" have limited hours of operation.
  • To see "Say 'Hello' to Asimo" you'll need to get a ticket from the Cast Member outside the small theater. The tickets are for specific performance times, and you may end up with a fairly long wait. For "Stitch's Picture Phone", sign up with a Cast Member and wait your turn.
  • When you first enter Innoventions, if you do not wish to see the "Technology" demonstration, simply allow other guests to precede you to the "show" area and then step into the center area to bypass it.
  • Most kids enjoy the opportunity to play with the free video games. They may also enjoy interacting with Stitch and trying out Dance Dance Revolution.
  • Wheelchair/ECV users enter Innoventions via the regular queue. There is an elevator inside to transport guests up to the second level. To experience some exhibits they may need to transfer out. To exit the building, wheelchair/ECV users should return to the first floor and go to the "Wheelchair exit" sign.

Facts

  • It opened on July 3, 1998 as part of the New Tomorrowland, and focuses on near-futuristic technologies. It occupies the Carousel Theater, a round two-story building in which the outer half of the first floor rotates. A similar attraction of the same name exists in Epcot at the Walt Disney World Resort.
  • The outside wall of Innoventions features a very colorful mural. Among the things pictured are some old Tomorrowland attractions, like the House of the Future, the Moonliner, and the original monorails.
  • The Tom Morrow audio-animatronic continues to move around, swing his arms, etc. after his presentation as he waits for the next group to arrive.
  • The Innoventions building has two floors, but only the outside of the bottom floor rotates. It revolves at a rate of 1 mile/hour, and makes a full revolution every 17 minutes, 40 seconds.
  • The Carousel Theater was the home of the Carousel of Progress from 1967 to 1973, and America Sings from 1974-1988. The song Tom Morrow sings: "It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow", was the theme for the Carousel of Progress attraction.

History

Innoventions opened in 1998 as part of Disneyland's "New Tomorrowland". It's located in the Carousel Theater, which was the home of the former Carousel of Progress and America Sings attractions. Disney has partnered with a variety of vendors to showcase the latest in cutting edge technology, including advances in health, entertainment, transportation, and of course interesting gadgets.

From 1967 to 1973, the building hosted the Carousel of Progress. This attraction was moved from Disneyland to its current location in Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort in 1973, at the request of its sponsor, GE. America Sings occupied the building from the following year until 1988. Audio-Animatronics from the show were used in Disneyland's Splash Mountain. The building was unused until Innoventions opened ten years later.

Hidden Mickeys

  • In honor of Disneyland's 50th anniversary, one of the 50 "Hidden Mickeys" has been placed outside one of Innoventions' entrances.
  • Hidden above the entrance to the Carousel Theater are two Classic Mickeys, placed on both sides of the doors.
  • There seems to be a familiar shape on the Carousel Theater's gold double doors. The partial Hidden Mickey is on the doors for Innoventions' main entrance.
  • Along the downstairs hallway is a mural painted on the wall. The mural is just down the hall from Tom Morrow. A closer look reveals a Mickey hidden within the bunch of grapes.
  • Next to the Dream Home front entrance is a window that shows videos of shadows or silhouettes. Every few minutes, Mickey Mouse's full shadow runs across the screen, chased by Disney fans.
  • Dream Home - a Mickey is hidden within the decorative railing by the front door.
  • Dream Home - Examine the yellow carpet in the main hallway and find a Mickey hidden in the circle pattern.
  • Dream Home - A bookend features Mickey's silhouette. It is hidden on the shelves in the Peter Pan inspired, Storytelling Room.
  • The webcams above some the Innoventions computer monitors are shaped like Classic Mickeys.
  • Upstairs in the game area, under the glass floor, a piece of red Mickey-shaped glass is hidden amongst a sea of blue glass stones.
